Geoscience society of the university of new south wales
GEOSOC is a student society devoted to promoting the study of Geosciences at the University of New South Wales. We encourage those with an interest in earth sciences, geology, geography, geochemistry, geophysics and environmental sciences to join. The society hosts a number of social events to encourage networking of like-minded students and provide a fun way to relax during the semester. Professional development events are also held throughout the year, where members have the opportunity to enrich their post-uni career with networking and tips, as well as first access to a range of scholarship, vacation work and graduate opportunities. Members are also notified of events run by other organisations in NSW related to the mineral, oil/gas and environmental industries.
In the mid-year break, GEOSOC runs a two day Fossil and Wine tour in the Hunter Valley, north of Sydney. The first day is spent at Mulbring Quarry, a Permian deposit where students are able to brush up on their palaeontology skills. Every student usually finds a good collection of brachiopods, bryozoans and gastropods. The next day is spent sampling some of Australia’s finest wines in the Hunter Valley Region, making for a very memorable experience.
So, don’t take this opportunity for Granite, join now!
